On July 7, 2022, the Institute of Water Resources Planning (IWRP) held its mid-year review meeting and a ceremony to receive the Labor Medal, First Class for the second time. Over 60 years of development since its establishment in 1961, the IWRP with generations of officials and employees has always strived and determined to complete all tasks and services in different periods.

Inheriting its long tradition and experiences, today's hydraulic work planners are continuing to promote their strengths. In recent years, the Institute has researched and developed various master plans to meet the development requirements of regions and river basins, typically the hydraulic work plans in the context of climate change and sea level rise for the Red River Delta, for the Central Region, and the Central Highlands, and master plans on the use of water resources, flood planning, dike systems, etc. In particular, the Institute is currently presiding over the planning for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Hydraulic Works for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. At the same time, adapting to new requirements, the Institute has been providing effective advisory and consultancy to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Directorate of Water Resources and the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority in forecasting water resources, developing water use plans to serve water supply management for agricultural production, in regulating operation of reservoirs on river basins and irrigation systems for effective water supply, flood prevention for downstream, and minimization of damage caused by natural disasters... Besides, activities on baseline investigation, scientific research and international cooperation are continuously promoted to broaden the IWRP’s contributions to the sector and to the country.
