On July 7, 2021, the IWRP held their 2021 Midyear Review Meeting to evaluate the results achieved in the past 6 months and point out the measures to complete the activities and projects of the 2021 plan.
In the first 6 months of 2021, despite difficulties at the beginning of the year including the prolonged pandemic Covid-19 that affecting the country in general and the sector and the Institute in particular, the IWRP have tried their best to realize the Plan and achieved some important targets and workload. The Institute promptly responded to the requirements in providing consultancy and support to state management functions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Directorate of Water Resources in forecasting, rational use of water resources, proactively adapting to changes in water quantity and quality, natural disaster situations: drought, saltwater intrusion, storm, flood, waterlogging. Especially, the Institute has implemented on schedule, ensuring the quality of the tasks of Planning for natural disaster prevention and control and hydraulic works for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050; organized online seminars on hydraulic work planning in Lao PDR; check and acceptance of three state-level research projects, two ministerial-level research projects; implementing procedures related to the project on application of remote sensing technology and GIS to serve the sector management.
Speaking at the Meeting, Mr. Do Van Thanh - Director of the IWRP praised the efforts of the units and staff and acknowledged the Institute's results in the last 6 months. Mr. Thanh also pointed out the shortcomings that need to be overcome and emphasized that in the last 6 months of the year, the Institute need to continue to promote the spirit of solidarity of the Institute, focus on professional work to complete on time and at high quality of all the tasks assigned in 2021, and to develop plans for the year 2022.
