On December 30, 2021, the Institute of Water Resources Planning (IWRP) held  their 2021 Year Review Meeting. The conference was chaired by Mr. Do Van Thanh – the IWRP’s Director, Mr. Luong Van Anh - Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Water Resources (DWR) and Mr. Vu Xuan Thanh - Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority (VNDMA). Present at the meeting were also representatives of units under different Departments of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). All leaders and employees of the Institute of Irrigation Planning attended the meeting either offline or online due to the distance keeping practice under the pandemic circumstances.

In 2021, despite of many difficulties and challenges caused by the extreme weather, slow economic growth and especially the long periods of lock-down as impact of the pandemic, the IWRP was determined to overcome all difficulties and successfully complete their assigned tasks. The Institute has completed the key contents of the "Plan for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Hydraulic Works for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050" as planned; well implemented the tasks of forecasting water sources and developing water use plans, providing consultancy on the operation of large-scale reservoirs, carrying out projects on baseline investigation, monitoring, forecasting the quantity and quality of water resources, scientific and technological researches, training activities, international cooperation, and many other tasks. IWRP’s consultancy services to the MARD, DWR, VNDMA and other relevant ministries, branches and provinces in various fields of water conservancy and disaster prevention were assessed as effective and timely. The Institute’s role, contributions and efforts were highly appreciated by the leaders of MARD and DWR, VNDMA for the past year and they also provided advice to the Institute to improving their performance, efficiency and potential expansion of activities.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Do Van Thanh recognized the efforts and achievements made by the staff of the Institute as a whole in 2021, assessed the successful aspects and frankly pointed out the shortcomings that require greater efforts and investments to overcome in 2022. Mr. Thanh also emphasized that it is important in 2022 for the Institute strengthen the spirit of solidarity, overcome shortcomings and challenges, strive to successfully complete the planned targets, and make the Institute more and more developed as a leading agency of more than 60-year history and awarded the title of honor Hero of Labor.
