31/10/2024

On October 30, Director Do Van Thanh of the Institute for Water Resources Planning (IWRP) led a meeting with a delegation from IHI Corporation (Japan), headed by Mr. Konosuke Yoshii, IHI’s Chief Representative in Vietnam. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the International Cooperation Department, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). IWRP’s participants included leaders and specialists from the Training and International Cooperation, Science, Technology and Environment, and Northern Water Resources Planning departments.

The meeting focused on providing an overview of both parties and exploring potential collaborative projects. IHI, with strengths in technological solutions and extensive experience in infrastructure, discussed its desire to partner with IWRP on high-tech initiatives for designing, constructing, managing, and operating water resource systems in Vietnam.

At the meeting, IWRP presented notable ongoing projects, including the "Development of machine learning and remote sensing-based water management platform for sustainable agriculture in Asian deltas”. This platform, based on machine learning and remote sensing, targets sustainable agricultural development across Asian deltas. Additionally, IWRP introduced projects using advanced technologies, such as remote sensing for decision-making support, forecasting, and disaster warnings, currently being implemented in major river basins in Central Vietnam.

With input from experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology, JICA, and both parties, the meeting laid a foundation for future cooperation focused on scientific and technological solutions to address urgent needs in water resource management, disaster prevention, and climate change adaptation. Both parties will continue discussions on specific details to progress these collaborative projects in the near future.
