On December 11, 2019, a ceremony announcing the Decision appointing the new Director of the IWRP was held at its Head Office in Hanoi (Decision No. 4698 / QD-BNN signed on December 6, 2019). Mr. Do Van Thanh, former Deputy Director of the Directorate of Water Resources (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development-MARD) will take the post of the Director since December 2019.

At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hiep as Secretary of the MARD’s Party Committee and Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Nguyen Van Truong - Standing Deputy Secretary of the MARD’s Party Committee, Mr. Ngo Hong Giang - Director of MARD’s Organization and Personnel Department, Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh - Director General of the Directorate of Water Resources and leaders and representatives of various MARD’s departments and sub-departments, the Directorate of Water Resources and key staffs of the IWRP witnessed the handover of the Decision and congratulated the new director.
MARD’s Vice Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep after handing over the Decision to Mr. Do Van Thanh expressed his desires that the new Director will perform well as the leader of the IWRP in maintaining the Institute’s tradition, enhancing the Institute’s position and promote the Institute’s development to meet the expectation of MARD's leaders as well as of the IWRP’s staff.

Mr. Do Van Thanh officially holds the position of Secretary of the IWRP’s Party Committee, according to the decision of the Secretary of MARD’s Party Committee handed over by Mr. Nguyen Van Truong, the Standing Deputy Secretary of MARD’s Party Committee.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Do Van Thanh showed his honor to receive the new tasks, affirmed his determination to fulfill the tasksl and try to be deserved to the trust of MARD’s leaders, to the expectations of the IWRP’s Board of Directors and staff. Mr. Thanh affirmed that, together with the IWRP’s Party Committee, Board of Directors, divisions and staff, he would strengthen solidarity and well perform the tasks, including focusing on the planning for natural disaster prevention and control, and for hydraulic work development nationwide and at river basin, regional and local levels, on consultancy work to support the sector’s and Ministry’s state management functions, and on scientific research, international cooperation and other tasks within its functions and mandates of the Institute.
